The Media pt. 2

Well, it's time to break out the shovels and continue digging into this pile.  In the last media post, this writer touched on the things that the media does.  The biggest thing they do is corrupt viewers.  They push stereotypes, sexualize women and children, among other things.  They do this through means of seemingly harmless shows.  Generally, the shows really are harmless, but people (especially children) are vulnerable to this brainwashing by the media.

Old shows like Home Improvement and Everybody Loves Raymond depict males as idiots who can't understand emotions.  Talk shows like Maury and Jerry Springer have pushed the 'Men Are All Cheaters' narrative for about twenty-five years each.  What's the end result?  You've got a generation of boys who don't want to be men and men who who don't know how to be men.  They didn't get that way by watching Good Times.

Some shows push stereotypes.  There's this popular show on Fox called Empire.  The show is filled with stereotypical characters, but this writer gave it a chance anyway.  Then, one of the characters uttered a phrase that turned him completely off to the show.  "There's so much homophobia in the black community."  Once that was said, this writer realized whoever wrote this crap has no sense of history and/or hasn't lived in an African American neighborhood.  If he did, he couldn't write a line like that and feel good about.  The producer, a gay African American himself, co-signed this flat-out lie for a quick buck.  That's garbage and he knows it.

Still, other shows poison your children by making them disrespectful to their elders.  Kids will tell their parents to shut up in public, emulating the characters they see on TV.  Disney Channel has a number of shows where parents come off as idiots who are not to be listened to or respected.  This has various results.  The first is that you have kids who will try to boss around or cuss out their parents.  This would not happen twenty or thirty years ago, as these kids would be left toothless.

The second result is the you've got parents (and adults in general) trying to be friends with children and negotiate.  This is bad as you now have weak parents who are afraid their children won't be their firend, so they won't do want a parent needs to do.  They want to be like the cool parent on TV instead of being teaching those children how to children how to survive without them.  This can promote pedophilia and hebophilia, because these adults feel they can 'relate' better with children.

Naturally, there is a push to sexaulize children through TV and other media sources.  A few show will trot out kids in the most revealing clothes and one of the adult characters will make make a sexual remark about the children to another adult, mostly in jest, but the statement is made nonetheless.  This writer remembers a scene from Seinfeld (a pretty good show, by the way) where the George Constanza character got caught ogling a fifteen-year old girl in her home.  As mentioned before, this writer likes the show, but how is this joke okay?  How was George not being hauled away in handcuffs and thrown under the jail.  This isn't the only show to do such a joke, but these post can only be so long.

Keep those shovels and rubber gloves handy, because this isn't the last you'll read about the media.  As stated in the last post, this is the biggest pile of BS yet.

Until next time...
