First, this writer would like to congratulate President Elect Donald Trump on his victory in the 2016 election. Mr. Trump overcame a lot of obstacles to get here. He had to overcome a history of bigotry and sexism, a left-slanted media (just watch the replays of the debates and say otherwise), a better opponent who was (very slighty) better, and even being betrayed by his own party. This man deserves a beer and a high-five. The next four year probably won't be great (again), hopefully they make sense. This writer doesn't believe it will be as bad as people are already saying it will be.
As for Mrs. Clinton, she should be hanging her head in shame. She (a lifelong politician) lost to an all-American idiot. Thirty plus years of being in polictics amounts to that. Well, as Mr. Trump cleverly said during the third debate, "She has experience, but it's bad experience." She didn't win 100% of Latinos (whom he called terrorists, by the way) to a racist and lost white women (her own demograpghic) to a sexist. She screwed up so bad that she lost the white woman demographic, which she should have won in a landslide. That is embarassing.
Looking at the numbers, however, this whole mess reeks of 2000. Remember how Al Gore lost to George Bush, even though the people voted for Gore. This is the same thing. Mrs. Clinton (as crappy is she was) won the popular election 48% to 47%. Neither candadate reached 50% of the vote (which should be shameful) but the American people themselves picked Mrs. Clinton, just as they did Mr. Gore sixteen years ago. Those aren't the only two election where that's happened, but the writer just finds it weird that a candidate can win the people and still lose the presidency.
The electoral college is what cost her. That's nice and all, but how is the electoral college so powerful and the American people so weak when it comes to the election. The electoral college was designed to prevent smaller states from being run over by bigger states in elections, so this writer understands why it exists, but the balance of power seems off when compared with that of the people. 538 people have more power than 300 million? Something about that just seems wrong.
Some are saying that the electoral college should be done away with. This writer won't go that far, but he does believe that the popular vote (the people's voice) should carry more weight than the electoral college. The people used their voice to say, "We want Mrs. Clinton." The system turned around and told the people, "shut up!"
Anyway, congratulations Mr. Trump. Mrs Clinton (pats her on the back), better luck in 2020.
Until next time...
There is no way Hilary will run again.
